Burnt out parsnip

That is what AI thinks a burnt out parsnip looks like.  But what one really looks like is me. Work has had me teetering on the edge for a while being as we have been short-staffed and I have been carrying the brunt on my shoulders.  But Monday hit differently. Monday one of our staff members who had been on sick for 2 months returned and refused a handover from me noting that she didnt want to be stressed...strike 1...then an email from an academic knocked me over the edge because I had in her opinion made the wrong decision and students were complaining. Strike 2. I saw the email and walked out. I'd had enough. I didnt take her call, I just messaged my boss and then my boyfriend and left.  J came to pick me up and we went to Borth beach for a walk. It was needed. A walk to make me forget the shit of work. We talked and walked and yesterday I went to the doctors and told them how I felt. And now. Now I've been signed off work for 2 weeks with work related stress. Doctor also th

Wet Wednesdays

I was meant to post this back in October but then I forgot - so here it is - still funny now   Sometimes you need to take a day off work and take a work friend with you and enjoy the random laughs of the day. The work friend needed cheering up because most men (not all) men on dating apps are areseholes especially if they are ghosting your friend. So we went for a day out to Machynlleth.  A town up the road and in the Dyfi Valley a mere 30 mins by train - and thats how we got there. Mach as its affectively called is a place where the kids and I have had random days out over the years and always on a Wednesday as its market day.  Except that Wednesday was very wet. A what my mate would call a little damp until I made a puddle in the chip shop.  And the market was finished by an hour after we arrived so no fresh veg for me!  I took some random photos of our day out, including a stab vest in a charity shop and the most delicious mushy pea fritter ever.     .

Mystery box 3 - the smelly edition

I know your all thinking 3 Ffion, I can only find one - yes I know the other 2 are over there Mystery Box 1 and Mystery Box 2 so this is number three. Anyway, I've recently realised that I like a fragrance in the room, maybe its a grown up thing (yep no idea if I'm grown up or not) but I started buying wax melts. These are not your bog standard wax melts though - these are a fabulous and fantastic wax melt from a small Welsh business that have every possible smell possible - fancy your house smellng like Irn Bru, try here. Or fancy some adult only Wax melts and toys - also try here (yeah I dont know why toys and wax melts go together but apparently they do) Anyway, I'm useless at buying wax melts especially over the internet where I have no idea what smell they are and cant work it out so I always buy the mystery boxes. This is my third one now, and its a Halloween box. So the Halloween box from Teddy Eva Scents is packed full of Halloween Scents from Gingerbread to Pum

Nyx presents...

Nyx is the family cat. She never used to go outside but now she does. And that is fab. Her coat looks shinier and she looks less stressed.     But having a cat that goes out means that we have kills.  So far this year the total of deaths is one, a sparrow chick which we (Carys as I failed) had to put out if its misery. Until Sunday, Sunday I found this under the chair....     I've no idea how she got it in and why she hadn't killed it but I wasnt happy having to get it out of the house. Hence the beanie in the dustpan brush, the frog had nestled in next to it and I wasnt touching the frog at all. I'd found it because Nyx was stalking something under a chair and I had to shine a torch under the chair before I saw it jump. I've had words with her about bringing one in, I mean love the presents but a frog. Its nearly as bad as that time when old cats bought in a slow worm except there was definitley more squealing. Ffi

Mushroom magic

Sometimes even though I have a meal plan I cook something completely different.  Take Monday night, Carys had come hone from school and eaten a leftover roast dinner and then crashed. There are days when Carys just crashes after school and I can't and won't wake her. I know she's eaten and she will now sleep through until morning. So with only me eating, I don't always eat a big meal. Tonight though I made mushroom stroganoff.  And it was delicious. While cooking it I also made the sauce for tomorrow's pasta and did the washing up and I have leftovers. So winner all round.

Meal Planning Monday 9th October 2023

Life is getting back into a routine here now, my cold has gone, start of term has been and gone and the weather has decided to be less autumnal... Anyway this week's meal plan was written whilst walking around Morrisons yesterday Monday - Sausage, Chips and Beans Tuesday - Pasta, Home made tomato sauce, crispy bacon bits and cheese Wednesday - Butter Chicken (from a jar), Rice, Poppadoms and Naan bread Thursday - undecided as Carys is in work  And that 's all I've managed this week - Carys is off to a friend's birthday party on Saturday and I'm thinking I might make a vegetarian extravaganza Ffi

Dentist visit the update

I wrote a post about being like a emu with my head in the sand..about not facing up to my fears Today I took the step and went to the dentist. First positive  It doesn't look like one. It's very chill  There is music on in the background.   And then the scary bits. But they weren't awful scary. The dentist was lovely, really supportive. Asked lots of questions. I even had a mouth xray done which is  a weird thing. It looks a bit like the below except I had to rest my chin on it. And the outside bit went around.  But I have bad teeth and bad gums so some have to come out. It's not going to be fun and  definitely not cheap but I've taken my steps. Steps that I need to carry on taking. I've booked a hygienist appointment and then I will need to book more dentist appointments. I'm actually adulting. And it's scary and horrible and I should have done it earlier.  So if your in my boat,  don't put it off. Get it done. If I can so ca

Meal Planning Monday 2nd October 2023

Well its October, it definately feels like it what with Storm Agnes and the term starting and my cold.   Carys and I sat down to make the meal plan earlier this week and we've got some lovely meals planned all of which I'd wrote down and then lost so trying to remember if these were correct. I'm thinking of getting an Asda delivery this week as it saves me going to the shops and I always like seeing what things they have when I do that.   Monday - Teryaki Chicken Broccoli and Rice  Tuesday - Carbonara Wednesday - Roasted Salmon (or another fish as I don't like Salmon) Broccoli and Rice Thursday - Lemon Chicken with Roast Potatoes Friday - Carys choice Ffi
