Come cook with me

We've been without a cooker for the last week as it was giving me electric shocks (the landlord is sourcing a new one) and so without trying to spend a fortune on take aways, I had to work out how to cook with a microwave and a Tefal Actifry. Now the actifry is actually Afon's as my dad gave it to them to take back to university and I've never used an airfryer before so it has been a learning curve

This is the one that Dad gave Afon, it has since been discontintued and unlike the newer airfryers can only cook on one temperature (180C) but after some web searching we found out you can actually cook quite a lot of things in it.

The link we've used for quite a few things has been Hint Of Helen which means that the kids have not actually had any chips in it. I even spatchcocked a chicken last week and did that in the air fryer.

So if you ever need inspiration about what to cook in a air fryer then here are my top picks and also fails:

1) Roast potatoes - delicious take half the time and so quick to make that when your eldest goes I want more you can actually make more quickly

2) Chicken - spatchcocked - OMG the skin was so crispy

3) Pizza - I had to cut them in half to get them in but they were so doughy and just like a restaurant pizza

4)  Bolognese - fail (also pasta in the microwave is not nice!)

5) Cheese on Toast or quesedillas - Easy take a few mins and are delicious

6)  Chicken chow mein - the kids made this last night and apparently some of the noodles got a bit burnt but I've tasted it and it looks fab

7) Salmon-  cooks in minutes and again the crispiest of skins

8) Baked/Jacket Potatoes - Again cooked in 40 mins but so much quicker than my mix of microwave and then oven - crispy skin and fluffy interior

Anyone else have a airfryer and use it all the time - Carys has asked that we look at getting one for just us but I need to work out if I have the counter space for one all the time

  1. It sounds like you have got on well with the Actifry and the food sounds amazing! I have heard amazing things about airfryer's and I am tempted to get one but we don't really have the space in the kitchen. x

    1. I'm not 100% sure I have space for one but sorting out cupboards and there might be room in one of them . Also their expensive and I think we have overused it so much this week.
